Your key works on one computer at a time. How to activate, how to switch machines and what to do if you lose access.
Your key stays active on one computer at a time, and you can move it when you switch machines.
Implementation
See which key is active on this machine
kasy license --showShows the key masked (ABCD-****-****-5678). If nothing shows up, this machine has not been activated yet.
Activate on a new computer
On the new computer, run:
kasy licenseType the key. If it is already active on another machine, the CLI asks before moving it:
This key is already active on another device.
Continuing will disconnect it from there.
Confirm the transfer to this device? (y/N)Once confirmed, the key moves to the new computer. Nothing you already built is affected: your projects stay yours and keep running normally.
Through the AI assistant (MCP) it works the same way, in conversation. Ask it to activate your key, and when it tells you the key is on another computer, say yes, go ahead and move it.
If the CLI asks you to wait
There is a minimum interval between one machine switch and the next. While it applies, the CLI shows how long is left:

You will be able to activate it here in 21h30min.It is not an error and there is nothing to fix: wait for the time shown and run kasy license again.

What keeps working on the old machine
Moving the key does not turn off anything you already built. The projects you created are yours, they live on your computer and on your backend (Firebase, Supabase or your own API), and they keep running, building and shipping without the CLI. The activation only decides where you can create and update projects with Kasy.

Your key is personal and works on one computer at a time. Sharing the key is what the plan does not cover, and repeated switching between machines increases the waiting interval. If more than one person needs to use Kasy, talk to us at kasy.dev so we can set that up properly.
